Are foreign teachers covered by health insurance? What kinds of medical services are available?Yes. National Health Insurance (NHI) covers not just Taiwanese but all foreigners with ARCs. If you come to Taiwan to work and obtain an ARC, you can join the NHI as soon as you start working without a waiting period. Can foreign teachers engage in any part-time jobs at cram schools or serve as private tutors?No. According to both parties’ employment contracts, any part-time jobs of Party B (foreign teachers) without consent from Party A (the school) will be considered a violation of the contract.

Can work permits be extended? How to extend a work permit?Yes, work permits can be extended before they expire as many times as needed. In accordance with the provisions of Article 8 of the Regulations on the Permission and Administration of the Employment of Foreign Workers, the employer must submit an application within four months prior to the expiration of the original employment permit (the employers shall control the time needed to apply and issue the employment permits on their own to avoid illegal employment caused by not having enough time to extend employment). However, for those whose employment permit period is less than six months, over two-thirds of the employment permit period must have passed before being able to apply.

How is my income taxed in Taiwan?As you earn money in Taiwan, your income would be taxed in accordance with the Income Tax Act.
